Glovo alternative · Barcelona
Tired of opening the Glovo box and feeling worse?
There's a better way to eat without cooking — and it's not another delivery app.
The Glovo trap
It starts as a Tuesday-night thing. Two months in, you're €400 deep in food you regret eating — lukewarm, packaging-soaked, somehow always wrong.
Do the math: €15 × four nights a week × four weeks = €240/month, just on dinners. Add lunches when you can't be bothered to make a salad. Add weekend takeaways. You're at €400–500 a month, and your fridge is still empty.
Why Glovo food makes you feel like that
Restaurants optimizing for delivery economics all reach the same playbook: heavy oils, white starches, sodium dumps, and ultra-processed shortcuts. The food has to survive 25 minutes in a bag and still register as 'good' on arrival — that's a different brief than 'nutritious.'
Fryer oil gets reused for days. Sauce bases come pre-mixed from industrial suppliers. Vegetables, when they appear, are usually the limp afterthought. You can't see any of this — the app shows photos taken by professional food photographers years ago.
And then there's the bag. Your delivery passes through five hands before reaching yours: cook, packager, the rider's insulated-but-not-refrigerated bag, the rider themselves, your doorman. Different cook every shift. Different oil age. You're not buying a meal — you're buying a roll of the dice.
The price math, honestly
A private chef sounds like a luxury you can't justify. Put it next to what eating out every day actually costs, and the gap is smaller than you'd think.
€16.50 for one Glovo lunch you didn't design. About €20 for a chef-cooked meal built around your goals.
A typical Glovo poke bowl is €16.50 all in: €12 food, €3 delivery, €1.50 service, for one restaurant meal whose macros you didn't choose. A full HealthyFoodBCN day is about €60: breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner, cooked fresh by a chef who knows your name and your allergies. Eat out for every meal and Glovo lands in the same range, without the chef, the personalization, or the fresh food.
| Glovo (typical) | HealthyFoodBCN | |
|---|---|---|
| Per meal | €12–18 (food + fees + tip) | €20–22 (chef-cooked, built around you) |
| Monthly habit | €400–600 (3–4 nights/week + lunches) | €900–1,300 (full plan, breakfast → dinner) |
| Who cooks it | Whoever was on shift | Frank, who knows your goals and allergies |
| Freshness | Lukewarm, packaging-soaked | Cooked fresh, delivered chilled, you reheat |
| Control | Pick from a menu | Macros, allergies, cuisine, family size — all yours |
And one more thing about Glovo
In June 2025, the European Commission fined Glovo €105.7 million (and parent company Delivery Hero a further €223 million) for running the EU's first-ever labour-market cartel — coordinating with rivals on no-poach agreements, sharing sensitive pricing data, and dividing up European markets between 2018 and 2022. The fees you pay on every order have funded that operation. Eating well doesn't have to mean rewarding it.
EU Commission decision →What we actually do
We're not a meal-kit company. We're not a dark kitchen. We give you access to a real private chef — Frank, who's been cooking for Barcelona households for more than a decade — and he builds a weekly plan around your goals, allergies, family size, and tastes.
He cooks it in his kitchen, here in Barcelona. We deliver twice a week (Mon + Wed), fresh, in heat-sealed trays. You eat well, every weekday, without thinking about Glovo again.
“I was eating poke bowls at my desk five days a week. Now I have real lunches and I'm saving money.”
Glovo-refugee FAQ
Is it cheaper than Glovo, per meal?
Comparable, often less. €8–15/meal vs Glovo's €12–18 once you add fees and tip. The savings really land when you stop also Glovoing breakfast, snacks, and weekend dinners on top.
How fresh is the food, really?
Cooked in Frank's Barcelona kitchen — same day for evening drops, the day before for morning ones. Sealed in food-grade trays, delivered to your door. Holds 4–5 days in your fridge. No reheating from a central kitchen, no shipping from another city.
Can I cancel if it doesn't work for me?
Yes. No contract. One week's notice. Pause for travel, switch plans, drop us if it's not working. Most people stay because the food is actually good — but the door's always open.
What about the nights I want something fun?
Order something fun. The plan covers the boring weekday meals — the ones that drain your money on Glovo. Saturday-night curry, Sunday brunch, Friday pizza? Knock yourself out.
Stop hating yourself for hitting 'order' again.
