The legal entity in Spain (Green Chef España, S.L.) initiated collective dismissal procedures around the same time.
Why did HelloFresh leave Spain?
Officially: the Spanish and Italian markets didn't offer the scale and profitability HelloFresh needed for their long-term goals. Unofficially: meal-kit economics are brutal — high logistics costs, low margins, and Spain has a strong culture of fresh-market shopping and home cooking, which made customer acquisition expensive. They tried for over three years (launched November 2022) and pulled out.
